“What if we got more help here? I think that would be nice. Maybe if I casually mention this to Mips’ brother, he’ll just start showin’ up, too. I bet he’d like that.”
Homework - he had a lot of it to do. He’d neglected it for several days and now the due date was coming up on Monday. A three page essay on human rights - an easy enough task if he could just get started.
Only, that was where the trouble began. Getting started was always the hardest part and he found that he simply didn’t want to get to it. So there he sat, in front of a small laptop that sit on a neat and orderly desk - his Word Document completely blank with nothing but a title. Most assignments were no problem… He would get them done days in advance - writing, on the other hand… Posed more of a problem for him.
He needed a distraction. Something - anything to take his mind off the inevitable task he would have to do… A sigh escaped his lips as he turned his gaze to the nearby window. It was a nice day out and he was stuck in his room doing tedious homework.
“You sure this is the place,” the bow wearing mook asked her companion. It was bright out. Much brighter than either of the aliens preferred. Still, the pair had important business on Earth and there was no way Spooks would avoid this responsibility.
“Of course I am,” the other mook said. He wrung two tentacles together and looked to the side. He hadn’t quite decided if it was obligation or guilt that brought him here, and he wasn’t certain he had a good reason to tag along with the nosy Spooks. He sighed and gave a small mook shrug. “Let’s just keep lookin’, okay?”

Ah, alright. You guys must be pretty damn smart then to have a job like that. Heh, only job I have is working part-time at a florist. I almost got fired a few weeks ago for taking a ton on time off. It’s the only place nice enough to hire me and give me another chance. I actually wanted to work at one of the restaurants because food but *sighs*I dunno…least it pays the bills. Growing up still sucks.
Spooks is pretty smart, especially wifh numbers and puzzles. I’m not really as smart as her or Ano, but I know how to do enuff ofh fhis kind ofh fhing now. It’s not too hard ofh a job, and it gifhs me a place to lifh and hide. Not so bad, I guess.
Hm, just like my friend Jess. She good with that kind of stuff. I’m not as smart as her either, but I do kinda know how to work some things. Eh, at least there’s benefits to it. You probably get to travel alot, too, huh?

I guess so? We lifh on a ship, so, it nefher really fheels like we’re mofhin’ around much. Not until we end up planet-side and Spooks drags me offh to do some shoppin’ at one ofh fhe port stores.

Spooks: Mips and I were some pretty cute kids.
Mips: Mmmmph….
Spooks: Remember how sis used to tie my eye stalks back? It was so fashionable those days! Nobody does it anymore, heee! It’s so strange how times and fashions change.
“No, fhat’s okay.” Mips sighed and stared at the human. He seemed really nervous, and Mips empathized with the human’s emotion. He never liked being around new people. He wished Spooks hadn’t mentioned his extra studies. Mips liked to think that his nosy cousin hadn’t figured out his side research. It was embarrassing. Still, he’d watched the situation pretty closely. The collar must have some kind of electrical properties to it. Mips hated electrical shocks. They were one of his highest rated fears. ”I’ll take a look at it fhor you. It’s electrical, right? Wifh shocks?”
“Ooooh, Mips, look at you!” Spooks said, giving the other mook a tight squeeze. “Figurin’ out things about machines! I’m so proud!”
The chimera nodded, watching the two Mooks cautiously as the collar went off again, causing him to cry out in pain. It was embarrassing to wear the contraption, and ever since the incident, he had been forced to wear it to make sure he didn’t endanger the lives of any more Pigmasks.

“Go on and fix him, Mips! You can do it,” Spooks said, giving her older cousin a shove. Sometimes, you just had to give Mips a push towards action, and Spooks found that literal pushes were twice as effective as any mental one.
“I’m goin’! Jeeze, you’re bein’ really pushy today,” Mips said, slithering off to get his tool kid and rubber tentacle gloves. No way he was dealing with electrical systems without insulation. He looked at the human and frowned. A human. A potentially very dangerous human. Just what he wanted to deal with right now. He glanced back at his seat. It’d be nice to go back and read more of his stupendously terrible harlequin romance novel instead of working on a dangerous collar around the neck of what may be a very dangerous human. “Um, just sit down ofher fhere,” he said, pointing towards Ano’s empty seat.
